Just wondering if this is the best newsreader to use on the OS X
platform. Also, a test post.

User-Agent: Unison/1.6.3
Oops. Never heard of it.

Regardless, the one *I* use is, of course, the best. :)

Now, THAT'S weird! That passed my spell/grammar check the FIRST time!

Um, which is? I still have to find the "show headers" command on
Unison. I'd hate to install MS Virtual PC, then Windows XP, just to
run Agent.

I was driving home from the office, and passed by the Smoke Pit.
After all that turkey, ribs just sounded great. Unfortunately it is
Monday and they are closed on Mondays :-(.

There are several other newsreaders, but why change what works - and works
WELL?

You might check the headers of one of the mac newsgroups and conduct your own
research as to the most popular reader for Mac OSX.

I still can't believe that, in addition to going into (further) debt to
upgrade to my G4 tower two years ago I also bought MS Offce:Mac Professional
Edition. I ran Virtual PC and XP Pro once. I'm still not sure where my head
was, like I had any NEED to emulate a peecee and run XP - Pro, no less.
<sigh>

Then, within a few months, MS released the new version, and a
less-than-generous recent-buyer-upgrade discount. I think I'll SKIP this
upgrade.

Thanks, I will give it a whirl. Since I am moving from Agent, I am
open to suggestions. Right now Unison is working out pretty well, in
fact it seems worth the $24 registration fee. I'll also check out MT
as well, though, before I register.

Since it's freeware (donationware, I recall), I still assume that MTNW is
better than anything that virtually requires any CA$H.

If your newsreader is particularly savvy, you'll notice the little Mac
"Toaster" icon displayed somewhere in the message window. This is a "face
file" or, according to specs (I think) a "X-Face".

Following is my default X-Face. I have another one (a "personality" within
MTNW) for the camera group I follow.

User-Agent: MT-NewsWatcher/3.4 (PPC Mac OS X)
X-Face: hD>1LuSdV-NtcH&B04oiKATAI"M~V0}h(IS0Ke_zPd\G^^IdNf%c]

It is the code that generates a pretty good rendering of simple line art that
produces the face file in the posted message. I don't think outlook or many
(any) peecee newsreaders support it. To bad, really. It's fun.

Uh, not I said the duck. One experience with web site redirect queries from
family members and friends is enough for me.

Besides, I hang the WORST of my laundry out for EVERYONE to see, anyway: My
REAL email address and first-and-last name. (It's in "the book" sans address.)

I've been using MT-NewsWatcher as well and have found it to be
intuitive (I even found the show headers menu selection, marked "Show
Details") and fairly bullet proof. I'm not aware of other newsreaders,
as I settled on this one in OS9 days and never looked back. Of course,
I'm not a heavy user of newsgroups, so I'd never consider running VPC
for a reader in the first place.

I've been an Agent user for years, and have gotten used to "how
things work" in it. That's not quite good enough, though to make me
want to install VPC. Since the Mac has a Real Operating System I can
use tin, and then a newsreader for the binaries *cough*pron*cough* that
I occasionally download.

Oh? With MTNW, you simply Select All, [Apple/Cmd] + B (Batch/Binary decode)
then sit back and watch your receive folder fill with clickable images. Simon
Fraser KNOWS what we like!

(This level of automation may require the purchase and use of StuffIt Deluxe,
which I recommend anyway.)
