Something like that: the Cornhuskers, who fired coach Frank Solich
after a 9-3 regular season last year, ended this season with four losses
in five games under new coach Bill Callahan and a final tally of 5-6
overall, 3-5 Big 12. Nebraska's worst season since 1961 also snapped
the Huskers' NCAA record of 35 consecutive years with a bowl appearance.

Billious Callahan, the West Coast guru who couldn't hold a job in the
NFL, took Oakland from the Super Bowl to a losing season (4-12) in one
easy year.

Judged by that standard, he has excelled at NU.

Probably not.
